Easy Read Administration Guides for Patients for Desitrend and Episenta

These “Easy Read” guides help to explain how to take Desitrend and Episenta with the use of pictures rather than lots of words. They are designed for patients and their families to help them understand and get the best out of their medicines, even when English is not their first language or they have difficulty reading and understanding information where a lot of text needs to be read. Click on the picture below to download a copy, or if you would like a copy (or copies) please contact Desitin at enquires@desitin.co.uk or calling us on +44 1908 488 817 and we will arrange delivery to you.

BPNA 2025 video of Prof Ingo Borggrӓfe’s talk on his extensive experience of treating Self-Limited Epilepsy with CentroTemporal Spikes (SeLECTS).

This video provides a great insight into how SeLECTS is routinely treated in Germany, where sulthiame has been licensed for over 40 years. Prof Borggӓfe provides practical advice on SeLECTS diagnosis and treatment based on his extensive clinical experience of using different ASMs for this form of epilepsy.

EpilepsyMeds App

ChangeMed developed a range of educational and support materials following several advisory boards with multidisciplinary epilepsy experts. It became very evident that there was no easy way or a single place where busy health professionals could find out information on the many different formulations of anti-seizure medications. They therefore put together a very simple to use App, an online database and poster to help support patient care.

This simple to use app is free for health professionals and is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It provides information on the different formulations of each of the 30+ active ingredients used to treat epilepsy. It also has useful information such as excipients, flavours and a direct link to the SmPC for each product as well as photos of the key products. This App is checked and updated every 3 months and changes are incorporated in new releases.

More information can be found on the swallowing difficulties website or go directly to your app store to download.

Online Database version of the EpilepsyMeds App

There is also an online version on the swallowing difficulties website. This is always up to date, as it includes real-time updates.

Epilepsy Meds Poster

The poster has been designed to show the different formulations for each of the 30+ active ingredients, the prescribing category is easy to identify, and also the size and shape of the originator brand tablets or capsules to help support patients who struggle to swallow large medications. This poster is regularly reviewed and kept up to date in line with the above app and online database.

More information can be found on the swallowing difficulties website. You can also request a hard copy for your pharmacy or clinic wall by emailing enquiries@desitin.co.uk or calling us on +44 1908 488 817.

Desitrend “Not All Levetiracetam Granules Are The Same” Educational Materials

In the UK there are currently two different levetiracetam granules on the UK market. To prescribers and dispensers of the product, they appear to be the same, however, they are fundamentally different in several ways, and this has an impact on patient care and potential clinical outcomes. We asked ChangeMed to design infographics and produce a video to explain these differences and why they matter.

Desitrend Video

In this short video Prof David Wright talks about the different types of levetiracetam granules available and why they are not interchangeable.

Desitrend Infographics

These infographics explain to prescribers, pharmacists and patients the difference between the two granule products and why it is important for the patient to receive the one that the specialist neurologist has initiated. They have usually been initiated for a specific reason, so it is important that there is continuity of prescribing across care settings.

Working with Young Epilepsy & ChangeMed

Young Epilepsy – A Guide to Anti-Seizure Medicines Book

We worked closely with Young Epilepsy to produce a book that is used extensively by prescribers when talking to patients, carers and their families about ASMs. It allows them to show the ASMs which are available in the UK and what it looks like, what formulations, and other useful information. If you would like a copy (or copies) please contact Desitin at enquires@desitin.co.uk or call us on +44 1908 488 817 and we will arrange delivery to you.

Working with Epilepsy Action

Don’t Sub My Meds Campaign

There are very few disease areas where the issue of substituting one medicine brand or formulation for another may seriously impact clinical outcomes, but epilepsy is one of them! Epilepsy Action approached us for an unrestricted educational grant to help support their Don’t Sub My Drugs campaign. We at Desitin share their vision that the choice of both the active ingredient and the formulation brand and or manufacturer are a very important part of epilepsy patient care.

The leaflet that Desitin has supported can be downloaded or ordered from their website.

The key points in the campaign include highlighting:

  • The challenges surrounding changes to medication, which in some cases can result in seizure recurrence and all that entails for the patient and the care system
  • The categories of ASMs and when it is or is not OK to substitute
  • Empowering the patient to take ownership of their condition and support informed dialog with health professionals around their medication
  • The leaflet with is aimed at patients, provides a space for them to list their medication so this can be shared other health professionals that are involved with their care.
